NIH confirms that HMPV that has existed in Pakistan since 2001
Human Metapneumovirus HMPV Virus: It has been declared by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Pak that the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV), which is currently in its rapid outbreak stage in China, had been residing in Pakistan for more than 20 years. Interestingly, this strain was first found in Pakistan in 2001 and now shows close resemblance to the strain from China.

The HMPV cases were reported in Pakistan starting from 2001 by NIH Islamabad. There were 21 recorded cases of HMPV in PIMS Hospital, Islamabad in the year 2015. Meanwhile, the government closely watches the deteriorating situation in China due to the virus spread. Accordingly, the NCOC will convene on Tuesday to take stock of the situation. This gathering is to review developments and take the necessary actions. Apart from this, the NIH also mentioned that WHO has not yet released any advisory on HMPV.
As medical experts declare, among other things, HMPV cases are common enough. And seasonal influenza of type A and B is also circulating in Pakistan with a few cases.
